What Our Staff Say
Find out what its really like to work here from the people in the know!
Simon Cooper - Partner
"I started with Monahans as a trainee in 1993, working out of our Chippenham office. After three years, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and sought a new challenge – as a Forensic Accountant. I moved to our Trowbridge office and while there, experienced a variety of work which saw me working on both Criminal and Civil matters including making the occasional trip to Court!
I worked in Trowbridge for 8 years but having reached the dizzy heights of senior manager, I took the opportunity to transfer, in 2004, back to the Chippenham office. I am now a Partner in this office looking after a portfolio of varied small business and private clients.
Monahans has certainly provided me with a great variety of roles and work over the years and being a progressive business there are plenty of opportunities for promotion."
Alison Freeman - Financial Advisor
"I joined Monahans Financial Services in August 2003 and am enjoying the challenges of working as a Financial Adviser in a busy and forward thinking organisation.
I am a member of the Personal Finance Society and advise both individuals and businesses on a broad range of financial planning issues.
I get to meet a great variety of people and am able to make a real difference to them which gives great job satisfaction."
Keith Richards - Corporate Finance Manager
"I joined Monahans in December 2002 as a Senior Manager in the Corporate Finance Team, helping to buy and sell businesses or raising money for business owners. I had previously worked in a similar role for a large national practice but was attracted to a regional accountancy firm with a such a great reputation in this area.
My job is very varied and I often do not know at the end of one day what work I will be doing the following day. This means that I have to be very flexible in my approach, self motivated and of course it means that I do not work a typical 9-5 day.
The team is small which means everyone is expected to take a large degree of responsibility. By working closely our experienced specialists, there is a great deal of on-the-job training and opportunities to make fast progress.
One fun aspect of my job involves me conducting a lot of networking and marketing activities, such as go-karting, horse racing, brewery tours and theatre trips. The job is certainly not all work!"
Natalie Maple - Trainee Accountant
"I joined Monahans as a Trainee Accountant in July 2004 after leaving university with a degree in Accountancy. I currently work in the firm’s Business Services department carrying out varied work from preparing clients accounts and VAT to assisting on audits.
Monahans have provided a structured training programme allowing me to pursue professional qualification as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) which I hope to complete in June 2008.
I enjoy working for Monahans because of the friendly working environment and the great training opportunities which have allowed me to progress towards qualification. "
Sheena Book - Assistant Manager
"I originally joined the Business Services Department in the Trowbridge office, where my time was spent preparing accounts, VAT returns and tax returns for a wide range of businesses of varying sizes and varying completeness of records! During this time I also completed my Taxation Technician qualification (ATT).
In September 2005, the time came for a change and with the offer of a promotion to Assistant Manager, I packed up my belongings and moved south to the Glastonbury office. The move has gone very well – they haven’t tried to send me back yet….! "
Emma Wakely - Directors PA
"I began working for Monahans in January 2001 as PA for Mervyn Osman, one of the Directors of our Financial Services business. After some inhouse Company role changes, I began working for another Director, Roger Perry, in the summer of 2003 and am still enjoying working alongside Roger today. Monahans is certainly a lively place to work – especially the Financial Administration Team!"
Ann Hardie
Partners Assistant - Forensic Accounting
"I joined Monahans in 2004, following a merger with the firm I previously worked for in Chippenham.
I finished my studies with Monahans and became a Chartered Accountant in 2005. I initially worked in the General Practice side of the business which covers accounts preparation, audit and tax work. In 2006, I was awarded the chance to go through the Monahans ‘Specialist Development Programme’. This allowed me to spend some time in each of our specialist areas of Corporate Finance, Tax, Insolvency and Forensic Services before deciding where I wanted to specialise.
In 2007 I took up a permanent role in our Forensic Services department based in Bath. I find this area very interesting as I deal with personal and fatal injury claims, company valuations and commercial litigation cases which makes for a varied workload.
I also get very involved in the general promotion of Monahans including the setting up and running of The Bath Young Professionals Club and organising numerous social and sporting events with other organisations in the area."
