A brief introduction
My approach is to be proactive in finding solutions to problems, and to listen to what clients are trying to achieve, while recognising the non-financial issues which are important to those clients.
Then to find the best tax solutions within the practical parameters such as family dynamics, avoiding disagreements and protection of family members.
I am experienced at corresponding with HMRC if there are any particular issues to address.
My tax career started in the corporate tax department at Deloitte and left following the birth of my first daughter. I joined HMRC on my return to work, and had a wide and varied experience as an inspector, and a real understanding of how HMRC select, work and settle enquiries. I have a wide experience of dealing with different businesses, large and small, and in understanding how accounts are drawn up and affected by tax laws and practices.
I left HMRC to take a role in the Deloitte Share schemes department, before taking a break from the business world to fulfil a lifetime’s goal to work in a stud farm for a year, invaluable in understanding equine and farming businesses.
I next took a tax planning role at a regional accountancy firm with a strong bias towards farming and entrepreneurial clients. This role was heavily weighted towards capital taxes planning advice. This included estate planning, business succession planning, the sale of business assets and development land, trusts planning and advice for professional trustees as well as clients. I also undertook matrimonial proceedings work including preparation of expert witness reports.
