What Our Staff Say

Find out what its really like to work here from the people in the know!

Simon Cooper - Partner

S_Cooper_April_07"I started with Monahans as a trainee in 1993, working out of our Chippenham office. After three years, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and sought a new challenge – as a Forensic Accountant. I moved to our Trowbridge office and while there, experienced a variety of work which saw me working on both Criminal and Civil matters including making the occasional trip to Court!

I worked in Trowbridge for 8 years but having reached the dizzy heights of senior manager, I took the opportunity to transfer, in 2004, back to the Chippenham office. I am now a Partner in this office looking after a portfolio of varied small business and private clients.

Monahans has certainly provided me with a great variety of roles and work over the years and being a progressive business there are plenty of opportunities for promotion."

David Wilce - Director of Business Services

David_Wilce_for_web"I am responsible for the provision of audit and accounts compliance services to our clients. I am based in the Trowbridge office which I joined some eleven years ago, having previously worked in other accountancy practices, both large and small, and in industry.

I deal with a wide range of companies drawn from a variety of business sectors, from architects and property companies, manufacturing and distribution companies, to the music business.

My role involves organising and controlling the provision of compliance services to ensure that we meet clients’ needs effectively and efficiently. This includes allocating staff with the appropriate skills and experience to individual clients’ affairs and ensuring that relevant deadlines for the completion of accounts assignments are met.

It is doing what might seem to some to be the routine stuff properly which leads to our clients having confidence and trust in our expertise as business advisers.

I am old enough to remember first-time around all the Monty Python jokes about how exciting Chartered Accountants are; perhaps that’s why, (out of office hours), I play bass in a rock band."

Sheena Book - Assistant Manager

sheena_book"I originally joined the Business Services Department in the Trowbridge office, where my time was spent preparing accounts, VAT returns and tax returns for a wide range of businesses of varying sizes and varying completeness of records! During this time I also completed my Taxation Technician qualification (ATT).

In September 2005, the time came for a change and with the offer of a promotion to Assistant Manager, I packed up my belongings and moved south to the Glastonbury office. The move has gone very well – they haven’t tried to send me back yet….! "

Alison Freeman - Financial Advisor

Alison_Freeman_1"I joined Monahans Financial Services in August 2003 and am enjoying the challenges of working as a Financial Adviser in a busy and forward thinking organisation.

I am a member of the Personal Finance Society and advise both individuals and businesses on a broad range of financial planning issues.

I get to meet a great variety of people and am able to make a real difference to them which gives great job satisfaction."

Emma Wakely - Directors PA

Emma_Wakely_3"I began working for Monahans in January 2001 as PA for Mervyn Osman, one of the Directors of our Financial Services business.   After some inhouse Company role changes, I began working for another Director, Roger Perry, in the summer of 2003 and am still enjoying working alongside Roger today. Monahans is certainly a lively place to work – especially the Financial Administration Team!"

Rosie Cook - Accounts Technician

Rosie_Cook"I joined Monahans in December 2007 after working in practice for just over four years.  I was looking for a professional company with a good reputation who could offer me the opportunity for structured development and Monahans fitted the bill perfectly.

Since this time I have gained valuable experience in Pension and Charity Audits. I have also recently completed a SAR course which means that I understand the practical application of Solicitors Account Rules, which I have gained some experience of already.

This year I will begin my ACA training which I am looking forward to immensely.

Working for Monahans has exceeded my expectations, everyone is friendly and helpful, and my managers are extremely supportive.

We also have a great social life outside work, which doesn't leave me much time for my other interests which range from scuba diving to fire walking."
