12/7/2010 : Equality Act 2010
The new Equality Act comes into force in October 2010, bringing together all previous discrimination legislation. It is designed to provide a simple, modern and accessible framework of discrimination law, which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society.
12/7/2010 : Flexible Working
If you listened to the Queens speech, you will be aware that it is planned to extend the right to request flexible working to all employees, rather than just parents with children under 16 or under 18 if they are disabled or some carers of disabled adults, although they will consult with business leaders before making any changes.
12/7/2010 : Sickness Absence – “Fit Notes”
The new “Fit Notes” have now come into operation, replacing the old “Sick Notes” and some businesses have already received their first ones. Under this new regime, doctors will decide what sorts of jobs a sick person could undertake instead of just saying they are too ill to work. Although this would appear to be a positive move, they have given rise to some concerns and we have answered some of the queries/questions asked here.

6/5/2010 : Sickness Absence – Introduction of a Statement of Fitness for Work (Fit Notes)
Historically if an employee has a health condition whereby they may be fit to undertake alternative duties but are unable to fulfil their regular role, a doctor signed them off work and provided a sick note. However since 6th April 2010, doctors have had the ability to not only sign an employee as unfit for work, but to also state that they may be fit for certain work.
