Covid-19: Proposed Statutory Self-Employment Pay

There has been a proposed amendment to the Coronavirus Bill by the House of Commons Public Bill Committee which would mean the Self-Employed would be entitled to Statutory Self-Employment Pay.

If accepted, it compels the government to introduce Regulations providing that “freelancers” and “self-employed people” should receive guaranteed earnings of:

(a) 80% of their monthly net earnings, averaged over the last 3 years

OR

(b) £2,917 per month

whichever is lower.

Given the speed that these emergency legislations are being passed, we expect this to be passed in the coming days.
