Monahans awarded Silver CSR Accreditation for responsible business leadership

Monahans, a leading accountancy firm in the South West, has been awarded Silver Accreditation by CSR-A in recognition of its commitment to responsible business practices.

This is the firm’s first accreditation under the CSR-A framework, following an independent assessment across four key areas: environmental impact, workplace culture, community engagement, and philanthropy.

The accreditation process has encouraged Monahans to embed sustainability more deeply into its day-to-day operations, from how it works with suppliers to how it supports staff development and engages with local causes.

Speaking about the achievement, Sophie Austin, Operations Partner at Monahans said: “We’re really pleased to have received this recognition. It’s a great achievement for our firm, but more importantly, it confirms that the steps we’re taking are making a difference.

“Our aim has always been to build a business that’s not just successful, but responsible too. That means thinking carefully about how we operate, how we support our people, and how we contribute to the wider community.

“This accreditation helps us understand where we’re making an impact and where there’s still more to be done.”

To achieve the accreditation, Monahans has taken several steps to strengthen its environmental and social performance.

This includes beginning to collect baseline carbon data across its major office locations, introducing a sustainable procurement policy for new suppliers, and maintaining a hybrid working model which has significantly reduced business travel.

The firm have also invested in its people through an apprenticeship programme, internal progression opportunities and the rollout of Carbon Literacy training.

Employees at Monahans are supported in giving back to their communities through paid volunteering days, pro bono work, and fundraising efforts, with over £24,000 raised and donated in 2024 alone.

Monahans has aligned its efforts with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the B Corp framework to ensure it remains focused on long-term impact.

“Our accreditation is further proof that our team are equipped to support clients not just with their finances, but with wider strategic challenges around ESG, risk management and sustainable growth,” said Sophie.

Looking ahead, the business plans to build on its current achievements with several improvements already underway.

This includes more detailed tracking of volunteering and pro bono hours, expanded partnerships with local charities and schools, and the development of a leadership programme for emerging talent within the business.

A formal Community Needs Assessment will also be conducted this year to understand where the firm’s support will be most impactful.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but we know this is just the beginning. This accreditation shows we’re moving in the right direction, and we’re committed to building on that momentum,” concludes Sophie.

Monahans remains committed to making meaningful progress and embedding responsibility at every level of the business. For more information about the firm and its CSR initiatives, please contact us.
